Choose style, choose comfort – choose the perfect socks for you!
You might think that socks are a mere accessory, but they can make all the difference in terms of comfort and style. Here are a few tips to make sure you make the right choice.
Long or short? Cotton or wool?
Socks come in three main lengths: long, short and ankle length. Long and short are fine if you’re wearing jeans, but ankle-length are essential if you want to look good in trainers. So what about the fabric? It really depends on the time of year. In winter, you’ll want thick wool, but as it gets warmer you’ll enjoy lighter 100% cotton or cotton blends. Remember, though, whatever you choose, make sure your socks have pre-formed heels and toes, and proper ribbing to provide support without compressing your feet.
What’s the difference between smart socks and sport socks?
Aside from the length, thin, smart socks generally come in darker colours to match business clothes. You can buy them in black, grey, beige or navy; just make sure they’re the same colour as your smart shoes
. And if you’re dressed more casually, you can go a bit further with your choice of socks, too. Maybe try stripes, patterns or bright colours to match your top or jacket. White socks, on the other hand, are made for sport and feature a thicker sole that acts as a shock absorber for your feet. For the more dedicated athlete, there are technical sports socks made from fabrics such as thermolite®, which draws sweat out and leaves your feet dry and comfortable – these are the perfect socks for hikers.
